And The Winner of Thief Gold from GOG.com Is…

Our competition to win a copy of Thief Gold from GOG.com has come to a close. Find out who won here!

The trapezoidal box. Because they still can.

In order to win, entrants had to come up with a new tool, weapon or arrow for Garrett. We received ideas for a lot of nifty gadgets that we’d have no qualms seeing in a future Thief title.

But there can be only one winner. So congratulations to Noah Young, who came up with the idea of a Mist Arrow. I’ll let him explain:

“Where moss arrows dampen sound, mist arrows dampen sight. Upon impact, a slight mist rises up around the hit spot. It dims the light as it goes through the mist. The exact middle is a place of nearly utter darkness, that can hide Garrett from view in plain light.
Mist arrows don’t turn torches off (unlike water arrows). Hitting a guard with a mist arrow will make him splutter and cough up water from time to time (not unlike the moss arrow hitting him) but he’ll be immediately in high alert and will still be able to move around, albeit slowly.
Finally, having an unnatural mist rise up in the middle of a castle room will intrigue the guards, that will move to investigate. This means the mist arrow cannot be used as an actual perfect hiding spot, but more of a mean of navigating through a densely lit area.”

Hey, Batman, mind if we borrow that?

Garrett has always missed out on a smoke bomb equivalent, sufficing with nought but flash bombs in emergency situations. Why can’t he have something more spooky and mysterious like a Mist Arrow? Congratulations Noah, and keep your eye out for more giveaways on Sneaky Bastards in the future!

This is great! A simple idea lacking from implementation in the games and placed perfectly into the Thief universe.
